LONDON TRIP - TASK

TASK: Source three different innovations relating to children’s book design or to book publishing as a whole. These could be in connection with the design of the book, illustration style, graphic design, format, added features or could relate to an emerging trend in book publishing.
- Give a brief description of your chosen element.
- Explain how it has been used within the design of the book or is connected to book design /publishing.
- Describe / explain why you consider it to be innovative.
 - Consider whether you think it has been used appropriately or is suitable for children. Explain your answers.

My chosen innovations:

1. IMAGE BOOK FACTORY  -  Dutch publisher

 - This element is an additional feature in a form of a hand puppet.
 - It is interactive and works alongside the story with powerful images.
 - I have chosen these on a whole relating to book design as well as the publisher. The additional features, really bring smile on my face and are truly innovative! to see the whole collection of them makes it even more desirable to buy them all and have  great time while reading it with children! I know that my children would love those hand puppets incorporated into a story book.
 - Has it been used suitable an appropriately? Definitely! because it not only will help children to want that book but also will encourage their imagination. The puppets are friendly looking and help to bring the story to life!

What is more, the publisher has variety of other different designs which are fresh, and I innovative.   For example these:

- Projection Books - innovative concept of interactive book! Fantastic! Original and fun!:

- Book gift boxes: Pizza book in a pizza box ( perhaps the pizza cutter could be plastic or more child friendly):

2. TALKING DICE from LINGUASCOPE publisher from London

 - Talking Dice. Those are dice that children use while learning or improve a language.
 - Every image means and looks the same wherever you go around the world, the other difference is the spelling in variety of languages. What is more the dice help develop vocabulary, aid special needs children as well as speech and language therapy. The dice can be used by the teachers, parents as well as therapists.
 - I have chosen these to be innovative because they are multifunctional, the images on them can be set in variety of topics like: drinks, occupations, pets, sport and many more or on their own. The learning becomes fun for all, not boring drill of vocabulary. The dice develop children's imagination: as they throw the dice they make up a story using the images on the upturned faces of the dice.
 - This innovative idea is suitable for children of all ages and different stages of learning because era accessible to all. I love it!

3. MAKE BELIEVE IDEAS CATALOGUE  - publisher from Hertfordshire

... I could talk about The Cube...

But I think everybody else will be tempted to talk about it. What I have noticed to be different is a VERY SPARKLY COVER of a MAKE BELIEVE IDEAS publisher catalogue.

 - It has very different design in comparison with other catalogues. At first look I thought it was a book and to my surprise it wasn't! I believe it has been designed in connection with new titles/series coming up later this year about Sparkly Bags.

Also the previous series has rhymes in it ( appropriate to my own design) filled with simple, yet beautiful illustrations - REAL representations of items in it.

- As mentioned above the cover has been cleverly designed  - SPARKLY to attract the audience. Even the font of the publisher's NAME id very distinctive and different, and works well with all magical MAKE BELIEVE IDEAS.
 - The suitability for the children. It proved successful - because even my own children thought it was a story book not  a catalogue. Apart from the cover,  the books about GLITTERY BAGS are designed suitably for younger audience: every girl, I am sure, will love it. Easy to hold as it has a handle, good size and comes with variety of additions.
The publisher definitely knows what the audience would like!

LONDON TRIP - VIDEO 1

NEW TECHNOLOGY - STORY MOVING BEAM. A very good idea but one thing I would change: I would like to see words also, so the children not only listen to the story but also can read it themselves.

LONDON TRIP - VIDEO - DITTA VON TEESE BOOK

INTERACTIVE BOOK ...FOR ADULTS. VERY INTERESTING FINISH AND TOUCH. I really like it!

LONDON TRIP - SPECIALIST FINISH..

BEAUTIFUL FINISH OF THE BOOKS, FROM SATIN ADDITIONS, RUBBER LIKE FEEL, TO POP UPS FOR ADULTS! VERY IMPRESSIVE, new and Fresh. It adds the feeling to the book.

LONDON TRIP

I enjoyed the trip today! What I have noticed in there was an innovative design hanging on the ceiling - Exhibition Logo: I am not sure whether that's how you would describe it.

Apart from publishers from Far East,  I did not expect to see Publishers from Poland - my own country, that was a surprise. A pleasant one, knowing that they are being recognised and included also in such an event.

The Book Fair was a good experience. I would love to finish my book and perhaps next year to be given feedback on it.

Literature collected:

The disappointing part was the map! ... mind you I am not very good at reading maps :) so perhaps it was me!
